View Full Version : Single Unit Jig?

Seems to me pretty soon there will be an aftermarket for 500 card repairs, that does NOT include sending the unit back to the manufacturer...

Does anyone have an idea if there is a free standing single device 500 series 'jig' that can be used by techs to trouble shoot, calibrate, check in and output levels, whatever, without having to place the card into a chassis designed for studio installation? I'm thinking the plug in clip, with just wires (with appropriate leads) coming off of it...completely open, as to allow a tech to tweak/service/troubleshoot/repair, etc.....

Thanks

I have made a couple of these myself for testing. I bought a couple of 15 pin connectors and added leads for power and ground with banana plugs on the other ends. I usually just hook a scope and generator up directly to the input and output pins. Here's the Mouser number for the connector: 587-306-52-015

I'm not aware of a commercially available jig. It seems like most people who would need one would be able to easily make their own.

Hi Wireline...

If you were thinking abut building a jig, would something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140221057530&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004) work? A +/- 16v API supply and apparently he has a few of them...

That should do, overkill though. You can power 20 modules w/ that one. Also, there's no 48v tap which is needed for certain EQ's and darn near all preamps.

Here's a few alternatives. I've used the second one and it's very nice.

Of course, you can get a open frame bi-polar from your electronic parts supplier for ~$50. Try Digikey # 271-2278-ND, for example.

It's not listed for sale, but Roger Foote made a run of edge connectors for his Pico 500 compressors, and they can be wired to a connector, to make an extender for service work. I think he intended to make them available at one point. Hook something like that up for use with a lunchbox.

Hi all! Just registered.

As Doug said we did a run of the edge connectors for use in DIY projects and for making card extenders for service and calibration.

I made a test fixture out of an Edac connector, a couple of TRS jacks, a piece of aluminum bent at 90 degrees and a cable to get over to the bench supply or lunchbox supply if it needs +48.

We have the male edge connectors here:
sales@picocompressor.com

I think they are aprox $10 a pop.

I just use a 500hr with the top removed. It has the added benefit of allowing me to align the pcb to the L bracket to mark the holes for the standoffs.
