I remembered! "Racking my brain" for a few days I finally remembered that other rack desing reminiscent of the Allison Research stuff... SCAMP! by Audio and Design (ADR). Not much info on the web, but a cool page at Funky Junk (http://www.proaudioeurope.com/index.php?id=22&entryId=2451&catId=432)and a wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_&_Design_(Recording)_Ltd#F760X-RS_.27Compex.27_Limiter).
Of course Pan60 already mentioned SCAMP in another thread, but when it popped into my brain on its own, i had to celebrate with a SCAMP only thread. :-)
