I would love a 500 form neve-like sounding mic pre. I see Eisen does a custom one, there is the Avedis, JLM, etc. What's the opinions out there? What say you fellow Lunchboxers, is there a reasonably good sounding neve facsimile out there?

Close to pulling the trigger on an AML 5003D, but I'm not totally sure as the MA5 is very popular. I'll be recording with an Avedis this week, and I'm sure I can return the AML if its not to my liking, but just wanted to see if there were any comparisons between the two? Obviously your experiences will be varied, but I just wanted your impressions. Pan? Still waiting on that review, ;).. If you had to choose between the two, which would you pick and why (and in what recording situations)?

my editor has me tied up at the moment, its done just need her to finish going over it.
i like both the MA5 and the AML, the MA5 seems to shine a bit more on aggressive electric guitar stuff, very nice and smooth, particularly in the those low mids. they are both nice. both are very versatile, i have a pair of the AML's and love them, i love the MA5 also, both great pres.
you'll probably not want to send either back: )~

I have and love the Great River pre. Mine is not in the 500 factor, but I understand that standalone and 500 series are identical.

My next pre is probably going to be the great river -- might try to save up for the Harrison EQ too!
