i have the A-Designs EM-PEQ and the Electrodyne 511 here and love-em both: )~
hard to say which would be the most versatile?
i mostly think of the EM-PEQ's when i think of wanting some beef, or fattening up a mix buss, but i have used it for all types of source and allays loved the results.
the Electrodyne 511 is great for just about everything as well, i love it as it is fast easy, and just sound great on what ever i throw at it.
which ever one you get, you'll want to snag the other one latter: )~

Are the E Dynes really pretty close to the original designs?

i am not the one to answer that but Larry ( Silvertone ), says they are.:D
i think he is the man that would know: )~
he did some direct comparisons with originals and posted his thought on another forum.
i will see if i can get permission to post his comments here.
