I'm getting ready to throw these into the rack. I wasn't planning to keep both but now that they're here, I don't know.

Ya may want to keep two. They have this new thing now they call "stereo."

:p

Those baby's link through the chassis or with a special cable?

Denyle... I see you have one each of the potion and essence there... I am wondering, I have the essence and would love to hear your thoughts on the Potion. I have to say the Essence is amazing, it is incredibly transparent, but with a bit of character. But at times I am looking for something with a little more "grab", especially for rock vocals and electric guitars, and wondered if the potion might not be the ticket...

Cheers.

Rubbish

Pin 6 (but it's probably not wise to link two different compressors).

I'm seriously considering adding a second Essence. I need more time with the Potion & Action. I don't really need both.

Round 1 (bass guitar direct to a 312): the Action has a slight edge over the Potion. Really, it's the Potion that has the slight edge, as in edgyness but I like the grabbyness and roundness of the Action. Going for a Les Claypool bass sound, I might lean towards the Potion. Guitars are next.

get some drum tracks and send them to a mono drumbus with your potion, or maybe smash a room mic. AMAZING. I've liked the potion most for the drumbus and lead vocals. i have to have another potion

just a thought but, it might be cool to have place for trading, selling, and or trade 500 format gear?
if you decide too sell your potion you should let some of the LUNCHBOX guys and gals here know. :D

I ran some clean & dirty guitars through them. Clean (Les Paul plugged into a Standel), both the Action & Potion were ok but neither really blew me away. Heavy distorted (Strat plugged into a Ganesha), the Potion really impressed me. You can really go heavy with the distortion pedal and the Potion is right there with loads of definition. There couldn't be two more different FET compressors around.

I guess I'll see what they do with drums soon.

cool to hear that the potion rocks on electric guitar.

any news on testing it out on drums? (my personal favorite application for the potion) :D curious to hear any other thoughts on any of the comps(essence, potion, action) as well.

im excited about Atlas Pro Audio's la3a style comp coming in the future that will be more colored than the essence.

obviously, it's going to be made by Tim Farrant so you know it's going to ROCK.

I prefer the Potion on drums over the Action, but only just slightly. At least, on room mic duty. The Potion's mix control is the difference maker.

just got another Essence on ebay right now for $875!!! :D

im thinking of using it on the mixbus while my CL 7720 takes care of drumbus duties and the Potion beats the crap out of room mics :p

tis the life of a gearslut

I think I'm going to let one or both go for $850+shipping. But, if anyone wants to do a trade, let me know fairly soon. I'm leaning towards keeping the Essence, but I'm not attached to either yet.

just tried them there. i can see them being great on an acoustic mix. for rock id likely stick with my CL 7720...i loved what they did for Cymbals and Toms on the drumbus :D

for getting the snare to pop, that's the Potion's duty ;)

i think im going to settle down on pres for a while now...im pretty happy. i have 9 quality 500 series pres(3 pairs and 3 singles), and then my digimax fs for any other tracks that might be needed on a drumset. for now i want more comps and maybe an EQ or two :D

if JLM releases a FET compressor, i will probably get one and compare it to the Potion. then a decision shall be made

and of course we cant forget mics...really thinking about a peluso p12. my BLUE woodpecker just came in today. i think shes beautiful(a lot smaller and thinner than i expected), will try her out tomorrow.

i really like the WOODPECKER :D, i i do have to use a pad with it.
the gain is insane, i think it was intended for lower gain pres then what i have been using.
