A little bird told me that the Eisen DIY Mk II kits will be shipping today. I am very excited!

Anyone else order some?

Do you have any idea how you'll be building out yours?

My friends at VSI Audio will be providing input transformers that are very similar to the SSL G series. For the blocks I have some Melcor/API block clone circuit cards and someone to help teach me to make them. For the output transformers I will be using basically what is on the VSI M-1, which is kind of like old Universal Audio stuff in a way.

The output trans is flat to something crazy like 10Hz-100kHz.

I still have not gotten the DIY kits yet, but I'll bet Jens is working like mad to get them out.

I sent an e-mail over to Jens today as I have not heard anything.

Anyone else?

I like that guy, Jens.

Word now is a delay in metalwork should be resolved by Tuesday 7/15.

I know about this type of delay from my experience trying to get the VSI Audio MX-1 going. We order 20 "L" panels at a time because we are not finished with the R & D. For example, the "VSI MX-1" listed in the database on the site will actually only be about 30-40 units total.

Why? Design and designation changes. It will be the "L21." VSI added a power light and light for the phantom, redesigned the board for 1) two input transformer options and 2) a daughter board. Added the daughter board to avoid having to hand wire the switches on the "right side" (pad, phantom, phase) and also support the new lights. This should reduce production time/costs and allow us to pass the savings to the end user.

The designers really tightened up the metering circuit and got rid of all the audio chokes to get much more gain out of it (they were afraid us engineers might blow something up with too much gain... I said that is why there is a GAIN KNOB!).

I personally have 6 units right now and I have been loving them on a variety of sources. Many Kronos (my studio) customers have commented on it and a visiting engineer or two, they have asked to get in on the last of the prototypes. If there are any left after that, I'll ask VSI if I can offer the last of the prototypes (black faceplate with the "M-1" designation).

Also as the Network Admin for a manufacturing company I know that the bigger customers get preference. J & M Products, the company I do the IT thing for, makes wire harnesses and line support clamps (two product lines). I have been able to get a few projects through the Wire Harness Division where they striped my Mogami snakes with a pneumatic stripper and pneumatic crimping machine for D-sub pins. Sweet deal, but I had to wait.

All this major digression to say, thanks Jens! Rock on, I really look forward to assembling my first mic pres!
