I've had one Eisen Neveish w/ the St. Ives Transformer for a while. By the time I decided I NEEDED a pair, Jens had(for the time being hopefully) stopped making custom preamps. So I posted a WTB add for the preamp on Gearslutz, and I got lucky.

As you can see, I'm not really a big fan of Jens' work :D

And it wouldn't be a true show and tell without some guts, now would it?

gotta love those transformers

I love the blue with the marconi knob... sa-wheet.

Is that a "hammer" knob I see there on the black one?

Ok better break out the camera and join the "Eisen Appreciation" thread. :D

oh so very cool!
what are the other three, the two with the chicken beak knobs and the one with the silver knob.
i had planned to get some of these kits but could just never seem to get to it.
maybe in the future i can track one down: )~

thanks :D

those 3 are Eisens with JLM 99v opamps and various Input Transformers for achieving slightly different sounds. a Monocor transformer to accentuate the low end, a Beyerdynamic transformer to bring out more highs, and a Lundahl transformer that has more of a natural clean sound. these JLM Eisens are amazing on drums, I've got 4 of them.

it makes me suspect that the JLM 99v preamp that has recently come out for the 500 series is most likely pretty amazing.

OK, so I need to get some pics of the guts of these Eisen's which I will do the next time I have 'em out (which is often since I'm always messin' with my lunchbox!).

Here's the general take on these Eisen's

the black one on the left is:

LS built: SL-N14 DIY500v4 2007
JLM 1:4 input, Purple audio op-amp, Cinemag (api 2503 type) output. Nichicon + 1% resistors. Pad/48v/Polarity
kind of neve-ish, and on the "dark" side

The blue one:
Jens Built - lucky me :): #28 DIY500v3 2006
Purple op amp, Cinemag output transformer, unidentified NOS input transformer. Load/48v/Polarity
kind of neve-ish, more on the great river side.

these pics are a little washed out, sorry! enjoy...

That JLM 99v looks interesting without the hood on.

I really don't see an IC. :)
