I don't really have a DSM system, just a 7800 and 8200 units; but a 2nd 8200 unit is in the grand plan, and I'm about to begin my 2nd rack of 500 modules. I know some manufacturers are building mini-frames to hold 500 modules in small console type 'desks'. (the "pete's place' Mrk Viii being a good example - http://petesplaceaudio.com/VIII/images/581HG8N0046.jpg

But who is making anything that will allow you to combine some 500 modules, along with a 7800, a few 8200s and maybe some other rack gear, like a pair of Dorrough meters. For those of us who can't afford a 1608, but want a similar, smaller concept, the 7800/8200 combo and a collection of 500 modules is a heckuva compromise solution. But who builds something that will mount the rack gear (7800/8200s) and the 500 modules in one well made unit?

hmmm.....that looks remarkably like the photo in my original post...

seriously, did i miss any info about a unit that holds both 500 series modules and 19" rack gear (7800, a pair of 8200, and maybe a dorrough meter pair)

it only holds the 500 format but it will allow you to rout in from what ever you want.
if you scroll down you will see that MARK VIII is much different today then when we first started.

With all of the loose 7800 and 8200 units out there, and then all the guys who bought DSM "systems" - I gotta think that there is some demand for a frame that will allow you to use the 7800 as the master section of a 500 series based "console" with 8200s covering the pan, send, solo and 'fader' functions. It all seems so obvious..... maybe that's the problem

yeah that's why i posted to the page, rather than just the pic that hollywood steve posted.

even this doesn't offer what the op seeks: http://www.treeaudio500.com/index.html but it is "custom configurable upon request (http://www.treeaudio500.com/configurations.html)" :D Those sure look like 19 inch bays to me (actually they look slightly larger as they appear to hold 12 modules per bay.)

But maybe I am missing something here. Steve the dsm system is really just an elaborate - and elegant - rack system solution with an integral patch bay (http://www.apiaudio.com/ph3_dsm_l.jpg) - some of it normalled.

maybe there is a call for a hybrid system like the MK VIII with an extra bay for outboard? but it could probably be done custom for less.

Been looking at the little SSL X-Desk to integrate with my 500 modules... http://www.solid-state-logic.com/music/Xlogic%20X-Desk/index.asp
