I have been fortunate to be one of the beta testers for the Pete's Place Audio Mark VIII.
From time to time I will try to update with pictures and notes about the process.
So far it's going really well and the Mark VIII is on schedule to be shown at AES 2009 in New York.

Hi Tony, thanks for the preview of the MK VIII and a very warm welcome to the forum...

In looking closer at the great pix you posted, I am curious, is the extended area in front of the faders functional or otherwise contain electronics necessary to the function of the unit? or is it designed that way to provide an armrest area like a typical analog console?

Really anticipating the release of the MK VIII, i think it is going to fill a unique niche in the market and will be a great solution for me and many others. Plus I am a hopeless fan of Pete's work anyway. :D

I'm not sure what electronics are in the front of the console, but it is an arm rest for sure.
I'm pretty sure you could take it off and make it a leather or wood bolster instead.

Pan will it be an option to make it smaller or is that the final size? It may just be the perspective in the pics but it looks a little deep for my personal taste. In person it may be perfectly balanced (and I suspect it is). Thoughts?

because the MARK VIII will be offered in a width if eight channels, at one time, it tends to look disproportionate.
it is only the width of a lunchbox. a couple MARK VIII units setting together, lacks the appearance of being so deep.
and although i did say eight channels, do to the routing capabilities of the MARK VIII, you could easily have it configured as a sixteen channel unit.
